Wisdom Teeth Removal in Payson, UT

Reduce the Risk of Oral Health Problems

Wisdom teeth removal is a common procedure performed at Utah Surgical Arts in Payson, UT, because the average mouth is too small to accommodate the proper growth of an extra set of molars. Wisdom teeth, which are the last set of molars to grow in the back of your mouth, usually develop between the ages of 17 and 25. Dentists and oral surgeons recommend having wisdom teeth extracted to avoid numerous health problems. Contact us in Payson, Utah, to schedule your consultation with Dr. Harris, Dr. Park, Dr. Brown, Dr. Wood, or Dr. Holladay.

Benefits of Having Wisdom Teeth Extracted

Removing the wisdom teeth will usually alleviate the possibility of future issues. Having third molars extracted early often results in a faster recovery, but you can have wisdom teeth removed at any age. An impacted wisdom tooth must be removed by an oral surgeon because it is stuck beneath the gums and will not erupt on its own. In some cases, their presence can go unnoticed as they are trapped beneath the gum tissue and jaw bone.

By having your wisdom teeth removed, you prevent these oral health problems from arising:

  • Swelling, stiffness, tenderness, and pain
  • Bad breath caused by infection
  • Dental overcrowding
  • Dental shifting
  • Cysts and tumors
  • Gum disease
  • Bacterial growth causing cavities

Wisdom Teeth Removal Surgery

Prior to undergoing oral surgery, you will visit us for a consultation and meet Dr. Harris, Dr. Park, Dr. Brown, Dr. Wood, or Dr. Holladay. We will take CBCT scans of your mouth and discuss your options for anesthesia and sedation. Typically, IV sedation is used with this procedure.

When the anesthesia has taken effect, your surgeon will extract any visible third molars. Incisions in the gum tissue will be made as necessary, and large teeth may be broken up for easier removal. Stitches will be placed as needed, and you will rest comfortably until the anesthesia wears off. You must have a designated driver present at the office during surgery and after to take you home. He or she should remain with you for 24 hours.

Our primary goal at Utah Surgical Arts is to deliver beneficial results through compassionate, friendly care. Our oral and maxillofacial surgeons have undergone years of extensive training beyond dental school and are qualified to provide you with specialty care and a variety of anesthesia options.

Cost of Having Wisdom Teeth Extracted in Payson, UT

We believe that everybody deserves to be proud of their smile. When wisdom teeth grow in without enough room, they can affect oral health. Removing wisdom teeth gives us the opportunity to prevent a host of health problems associated with third molars. If you live in Payson, UT, or Salt Lake County, we encourage you to contact our office.

AAAHC Accreditation

Utah Surgical Arts is approved by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). This accreditation is difficult to obtain and allows our office to function as a hospital and/or surgical center. Since extensive surgeries must be performed in a surgical center, there are many instances where the patient may be unable to undergo surgery due to the high cost of the hospital or surgical center. If your surgery can be performed at Utah Surgical Arts, the cost savings may be significant. Many patients who were unable to have the procedure due to the high cost involved were able to have the procedure performed at Utah Surgical Arts.

Types of Anesthesia

Our surgeons at Utah Surgical Arts offer many anesthesia and sedation options for patients to choose from.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is dry socket?

Dry socket occurs when the blood clot inside a tooth socket becomes dislodged, exposing the nerves underneath. It is quite painful, and you should contact us immediately if you suspect a dry socket. You should avoid smoking and using a straw during the healing period, as the sucking motion can dislodge the clot.

Will the ER extract wisdom teeth?

The presence of wisdom teeth is not a medical emergency, and nurses or doctors in the emergency room are not qualified to extract teeth. Only certified dentists and oral surgeons are trained to extract teeth, so you will need to visit a dental professional to have third molars removed.

How long does it take to pull out wisdom teeth?

We have been safely removing wisdom teeth for many years and as third molar experts, our surgeons can remove a set of wisdom teeth in about 60 minutes. This time will vary depending on the overall complexity of your procedure.

Does wisdom teeth removal hurt?

You will not feel discomfort while under IV sedation during the surgery. Afterwards, swelling and some discomfort is normal as your mouth heals. You can manage this with ice packs, rest, over-the-counter pain medication, and sticking to a soft food diet. We provide instructions to guide you throughout recovery.
